The gifts of the sea
We say that Stavanger has always been saved by the sea. The sea has always brought good fortune to Stavanger. This city walk takes you from the fish oil era to the modern period of the black gold and it's many exciting stories.
The gifts of the sea have always saved Stavanger from financial crises and harship. Herring, sailing boats and sardines have brought wealth to the city. Today, it is oil and gas Stavanger earns most from.
We start the tour by visiting the Canning museum which is located in a building that used to be one of the canning factories in the city. On our way to the Oil museum we walk through the picturesque Old town and part of the city center.
The Oil museum is a very modern museum that tells the story of the norwegian oil adventure.
From the pier where we meet we walk 2 minutes to the Canning museum for our first stop. We continue by walking through the Old town and end up at the Oil museum. It will then be a short walk back to the pier again to end the tour.
