Kid Friendly: No. The city cneter of Francavilla Fontana is quite and with lots of families with children. Mostly the tour is an en outdoor one, without museum visits. Children will like the castle (with the legend of a ghost) and the traditional sweets tasting.

Friendly: No.
I can't be considered 100% friendly but, except for some stairs of historic palace or church, it can be done using a wheelchair on the old streets of the historic city center. The castle is equipped with a lift

Art, history, traditional sweets

An itinerary to discover the treasures of Francavilla Fontana: the minor basilica of the Holy Rosary (better known as the Mother Church) with the Byzantine icon of the Madonna and Child with the paintings of Domenico Carella, the apulian Tiepolo; Santa Chiara church with the papier-mâché statues that are carried in procession during the famous Holy Week rites; the Fathers Liguorini one, also known as the golden church for the richness of its decorations; San Sebastian church with its baroque altars; the interesting Imperiali Palace with the wonderful balcony; some palace (such as Argentina Palace with its medieval balcony declared national monument). We will stop also in a small artesanal workshop to taste some traditional sweets: cupete (nougat), dried figs and the Mandorla Riccia: a certified typical product still made (with almonds, sugar, water, lemon, cedar and natural flavors) according to the century old processing using ancient tools.

Itinerary

The suggested duration of the tour is 3/4 hours. It's also possible to extend / modify the tour with a lunch / dinner in a typical restaurant; a cooking lesson ; a wine, extravirgin olive oil, cheese, coffee tasting; a visit to some artisanal workshop (papier-mâché, dressmaking, etc. ) and/or a folk and tradition museum, a visit to Manduria with the Messapian (a pre-Roman population) archeological site and the Primitivo wineries, the medieval hamlet of Oria, the city center of Mesagne (with it's swabian castle), Ostuni (the white city up on the hill overlooking the seaside), Ceglie Messapica (the temple of apulian cuisine with a castle and a pictoresque city center), Grottaglie with its ceramics district, Brindisi (the gate to Orient), Martina Franca (with its baroque palaces), Monk's salt marsh with pink flamingos, a century old olive grove, etc.

A Recent Review of this tour

This was the last of 3 wonderful days with Alessandro. He arranged my train ticket from Lecce to Brindisi and picked me up at the train station that morning for our tour. Later he dropped me off at Brindisi airport to catch my flight later that evening. Very professional, friendly, & knowledgeable guide.
