Explore the central massif of the Serra de Água de Pau, built by the Fire volcano. It's here you'll find the second-largest lake on the island, Lagoa do Fogo, or Fire Lake. Surrounded by endemic vegetation. Take a dirt trail in to Ribeira Grande city for a visit to the Liquor factory where you can have a free sample of it. Continue on a dirt trail along the coast for one more stop - the belvedere of Santa Iria where you can contemplate the immensity of the sea and the north coast of the island.
On the north coast, is located Gorreana, the only tea plantation in Europe, where the clay soil and acid offers a very pleasant aftertaste to this very popular plant.

I arranged this tour with Sergio thru you because we were traveling on a cruise and I wanted to make the most of our day there. My great grandparents migrated to Hawaii from Ponta Delgada, Portugal in the late 1800s and due to some really great work by a cousin, I knew of the street they lived on, the areas they lived in, and the churches they attended. Sergio was so helpful ! This was a great day. Sergio was fantastic!
