What would Vienna be without its coffeehouses???
As you might have seen in my previous tour descriptions, Vienna is full of coffee. It is not only a drink that started out as something very exotic, it is a lifestyle, a culture, a drug for many Viennese - and not only them. I have so many stories to tell connected to coffee, how it found its way to Vienna and why only here it could bear such an immense culture. We will check out some of the finest and most exciting coffeehouses, we will taste some coffees and also the sweets that should always come with it. But don't worry, if you are not addicted to sweets or coffee, I will also offer you a culinary tour through downtown. Did you know that our famous "Würstelstand" (where hot sausages are sold) are one of the most democratic insitutions in Vienna? We will stroll around the Naschmarket, the biggest and most international market we have. Check it out, there is so much to see and taste! The tour will end after a good lunch with different Viennese specialities of your choice.
The tour will start either at your hotel or any point you want to meet in downtown. Heading for the first coffeehouse (various choices) I would like to invite you to a nice coffee and a posh cake. Many stories about food and drink in Vienna with lots of curiosities wait for you while we stroll around the old town, of course you will see the cathedral, the imperial palace , some other old churches and places full with stories and intersting food shops - just in case. . . . Time for quick snack - try the fantastic sausages that the city is also famous for! Then we will head to Viennas biggest market, the Naschmarket. Lots of sidesteps! Musikverein, Karlskirche - a baroque jewel and Secession, one of Viennas masterpieces of Art Nouveau style. The Naschmarket is Viennas stomach, it has a very international atmosphere. Go and taste yourself around the whole world in just one place! Then we go for lunch and you will try the famous Vienneses dishes! After all that much, you might need a Schnaps!
