Avignon-Carpentras-Cavaillon Synagogues with a private guide
Jewish communities in the South of France dates back to the beginning of Roman Gaul after the fall of Massada in 73.
These communities improved the cultural life of the area especially in the scientific, medical, mystical and philosophical fields. They played an important economic role in the movement of goods and ideas. The artistic field is also part of the heritage especially music.
While strolling through the former Jewish sections of towns and visiting the old synagogues, you'll appreciate the fascinating history of the Jewish people of Provence.

The last stop on our cruise was Marseilles. We selected a Jewish Heritage tour with Sam Neuville outside of the city. Exploring the ancient synagogues in Cavaillon and Carpentras, with Sam and the local docents, gave us an understanding and appreciation of how the Jewish people lived and survived hundreds of years ago to the present. Lunch at Cavaillon pub, a market and sweet shop interlude plus a detour to Gordes rounded out a perfect day in Provence. Next time more time in Provence with Sam Neuville.
