Get out of London and see the fascinating landscape, culture and history of central and northern England
A five day tour to get away from the big city, and discover off the beaten track scenery, villages, history and culture. The itinerary id fully customisable if you have a particular area of interest, but you can also leave it completely to me, and relax as the new experiences happen day after day. This tour can be suitable for those who have never ventured outside London, or for confirmed anglophiles. The route can be circular, or a one way trip ending in the North.
Day 1: start London - escape- cambridge, Wicken Fen, Ely (overnight)
Day 2 : Stamford, Woolsthorpe (sir Isaac Newtons's ancestral home) Grantham, Lincoln (cathedral, perhaps castle), Humber Bridge, Beverley (overnight)
Day 3 : York, Helmsley castle, Rievalx Abbey, Fountains Abbey, Ripon, Knaresborough (overnight)
Day 4. The Yorkshire Dales, overnight Hawes or Ingleton.
Day 5. Hadrians Wall or the Lake District. End Carlisle (for train to London/Scotland or contnue.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: I will come into London to help yopu take your luggage to my car, which I will leave at Cockfosters tube station, (or other convenient location by arrangement)
End location: As the start, or a Northern train station, or any other suitable location by arrangement.
Duration: 5 days
This is a Monday to Friday tour. It can be split over two weeks, with a weekend or single day break, by arrangement.
Renault Grand Scenic. I have space for 4 medium sized suitcases when travelling with 4 passengers. one of the seats is a little limited in space, as I am tall (but the car is fine for 4 people as long as they are not a basketball team)
guiding and transport throughout. Assistance with finding appropriate overnight accomodation.
Admission fees. Quite often tours can be planned based on multiple National Trust and English heritage properties, so a single membership can cover many activities. Tour meals and accommodation. The tour is priced assuming that some (2) of the nights, I will be close enough to home to not need accommodation, if this is NOT the case, there will be a small additional charge (or I will ask you to book my accommodation along with yours)
