Ensenada Wine History and tastings.

Take this tour to explore how Mexico's wine came to be, here in the mecca of it all: Guadalupe Valley. From the roots' history of the vines to the glass that may accompany your Baja California meal, our cuisine and wineries have been given many praises through Wine Spectator Magazine and The Daily Meal.
Explore three different wineries with me and meet the owners and caretakers, let them tell you their story on how Mexican wine country evolved and what's going on currently, as well as everything you would like to know about our beautiful wine producing valley.

Itinerary

Most wineries open at 11am. I always recommend to have eaten breakfast before I pick you up. The tour may start at 10am and end around 2pm, unless you decide to be taken to a restaurant.
There will be 3 wineries to visit and if you wish we may exchange a winery for the Museum of Wine and Vine. Drive is usually 30 minutes from your hotel taking highway 3 "Ruta del Vino" also known as the road to Tecate.

Meeting Point + Tour Duration

Meeting Point Options: Cruise Ship Port, Hotel

Duration: 4 hours

Traffic might give or take 15 minutes. Also some wineries are subject to availability in case there is a particular one you wish to visit. Sometimes the tour lasts longer just because you are enjoying yourself and don't want to leave yet.

Estimated Local Cash Needed

80 USD - Wine tastings -> $7 - 25 usd
Wine purchases: You are only allowed 1 bottle back into CA, USA per person. Wine bottle prices range from 12 usd to 35 usd.

What’s Extra

Other: Wine tastings, each costs from 5 to 10 USD depending on the winery...whether it is a small producing winery or artisan winery (5USD)or a larger more commercial winery(10USD) you will choose what wineries you would like to visit. Bottles of wine usually cost 8 -45 USD if you decide to purchase the wine that you tasted...some wineries that I know will not charge you the tasting if you purchase wine...but it is NOT always a guarantee...so please come prepared to pay for the tastings. Restaurants (Laja, Corazon de Tierra)can be high end which cost between 60 to 80 USD a person, their wine lists may range from 40 to 100 USD a bottle for your table. There is also a more economical yet great restaurant called La Cocina de Dona Esthela, which serves the traditional Birria and you can expect to be charged around 20 USD per person. These are just some examples of our traditional cuisine in the Valley...I can give you more options on our meeting.

A Recent Review of this tour

I can't say enough about how wonderful Mariana was as a guide through the Valle de Guadalupe region! There were 4 of us and she made the first trip to Mexico for the 80-year-olds in our group a very special one. We stopped at 3 wineries (Tres Valles was our favorite) plus an excellent food truck serving tortas in a gorgeous setting. It was a wonderful day out and we can't wait to go back to Ensenada to explore more of the region with Mariana.
