Fushimi Inari Shrine, Tofuku-ji, Sanjusangen-do, Kiyomizu-dera, Gion
Along the east mountain side, there is a lot of temples, shrines together with Gion and shopping district.
Start from Fushimi Inari Shrine located in the southern most along east mountain.
Huge number of orange Torii gates will surprise you. This is a Shinto Shrine originally founded in 8th century. You walk through the Torii gates way up the hill of Inari.
After Fushimi Inari Shrine, visit Tofuku-ji Zen Temple.
So quiet you will feel after the busy Fushimi Inari.
Zen temple is basically like this quiet, simple, humble, not decorative.
Zen meditation should be done in such quiet atmosphere.
Kiyomizu Temple is located in the middle of East Mountain.
Although built in 8th, whole buildings were burnt down in 16th century and the present ones were rebuilt in 17th century.
From the veranda of this Buddha Hall, you can have a panorama view of the City.
Gion is a Geisha house district down from Kiyomizu Dera.
There are about 30 Geisha houses together with a lot of traditional town houses.
