A tour that traces Bowie's life in Berlin during his two and a half year stay
Unfortunately, little has remained of where David Bowie used to hang out and where he spent most of his time: The "Dschungel", Berlin's most legendary club until the dawning of the Techno Age, is now part of the Ellington Hotel. The building, though, still exists. The same goes for "Chez Romy Haag", also legendary, as it was owned by Dutch-born transgender . . . lady . . . Romy Haag, and was a must-go for any celebrity who came to Berlin between 1977 and 1983 (when it closed). While the building still stands, it now houses a gay club, "Connection".
But what DOES indeed still stand, and pretty much unchanged since Bowie left town in 1979, are the Hansa Studios, where he recorded one of his best albums ("Heroes") and the building he lived in. Also still around, but under a slightly different name, is the (gay) bar next to Bowie's flat, where he used to hang out a lot. All of this will be covered during the tour, which ends at Paris Bar, where Bowie, whenever he was in the mood to live it up, used to go to.
Meeting up at Kleistpark, we'll walk up to Bowie's former home, which is just a stone's throw away.
Then we'll board bus line 187 which will take us to the former location of "Chez Romy Haag", where Bowie used to hang out a lot since Romy and him were very close, and since we're nearby, we'll walk to where the "Dschungel" once was (a historic, streamlined building which today houses the Ellington Hotel), where Bowie was a regular. Next, we'll take subway line 2 to Potsdamer Platz which will bring us to Hansa Studios, where he famously recorded "Heroes".
Lastly, we'll board the subway line 2 to Zoo Station, from where we'll walk down to "Paris Bar" (where lunch or coffee or whatever tickles your fancy) is optional.
