Daily excursion visiting beautiful castles in Croatia
In this tour we are going to visit some of the most beautiful castles in Croatia: Trakoscan, Vinica and Erdody. All of them hold a special significance and have lots of stories and legends. All of them are within a comfortable daytour from Zagreb. It is said that the Zagorje region has the largest concentration of castles in Europe when considering the size of the region (over 50 castles). The region is a beautiful lush green area, relaxing, with lots of trees and hills, with intense green color in spring and summer.
The tour starts from where you are staying in Zagreb (or anywhere else in Northern or Central Croatia). We first go to Trakoscan castle, the most representative castle in Croatia, which is at a lake in beautiful and hilly Zagorje region. It belonged to a powerful Draskovic family. The castle itself is from the 14th century, renovated in the 19th century, which was one of the first renovation procedure of such calibre in these regions.
After that we go to see Vinica castle, built in the 19th century by the Bombelles family. Surrounding the castle is Arboretum Opeka. The castle is a half-ruin now, but the entire place is quite enchanting.
The third castle that we will see will be the Old Town castle in Varazdin, made by Erdody family, who came to Croatia from Hungary. It is a Renaisance looking castle, which roots go back to the 13th century. Inside is a museum with furniture and various items that belonged to the family of Erdody.
We end this tour where we started in Zagreb.

Dario was one of the best tour guides that I met during my recent trip to Croatia. He was extremely knowledgeable not only about his native northern region, but he also knows a great deal about the rest of the country, and he's very willing to share that knowledge with his clients. Generally speaking he was very concise and detailed-oriented when explaining the current political, economic and social situation of modern Croatia. I highly recommend Dario to new and returning visitors!
