Shop at La Vega Market and Cook your choice of seafood or vegetarian meal with locals
This tour starts in the morning with a visit of the most iconic areas of Santiago related to the Chilean food Culture, like Barros Lucos, Confiteria Torres and El Rapido in the downtown. Then we will go on foot to La Vega Market, to purchase the ingredients for our wine pairing experience. Then we go south of Santiago to the main Sea food's terminal to get the last fresh ingredients and interact with real local people. Our cooking experience will be in the Cajon del Maipo area (Andes mountain), where the beautiful scenery will contrast with the flavor of our great wine pairing class.
We will begin by introducing you to the wine and food world: you will learn how to distinguish colors, textures, and aromas of the wines and to pair them with different kinds of food while tasting some samples. Then you prepare some traditional Chilean dishes assisted by a chef, surrounded by great views of the magnificent Andes Mountain. Cooking will be done in a traditional adobe oven.
We will pick you up from your hotel and take you to downtown Santiago for our grocery shopping. On the way we will pass by "El Rapido" in the downtown, then continue to the main fruit and vegetable market to select our ingredients and try a "Mote con huesillo". The next stop will be the fish terminal, located in the south of Santiago, to get fresh fish for our cooking experience. Then we drive to the Maipo Canyon to begin the cooking class. Here you will cook with a chef using a traditional adobe oven while having a glass of wine. After lunch, we will go back to your hotel.

We had a wonderful day with Maurizio. After deciding our preferences for the meal, he drove us to the chaotic Vego market where we proceeded to buy the ingredients. He explained fruit and vegetables we saw that we were not familiar with. We then drove to his house with Maurizio explaining many aspects of Chilean life. We cooked and ate a delicious meal with matching wine. It is always a privilege to visit a family home when travelling, and with the cooking and recipes we greatly enjoyed our day.
