Visit the Coffee Farm, just outside of Medellin City.

This tour introduces the traveler to the great Colombian coffee farming tradition without having to go to the coffee triangle in the middle of the country, many hours away from Medellin. Our city was founded by the same coffee farmers that eventually went to the south and originated a national industry, so it is pertinent to visit the real origins of that industry only 40 minutes away from downtown. Just in the next valley, about 30 kilometers away, there are many coffee plantations and mills that will give you a taste of our main crop. We will visit one of them, see how the coffee is cultivated and harvested (during harvest season). We will have a typical lunch wrapped in plantain leaves, or if you prefer to have lunch on the road coming back to the city. Finally, we will taste the sweets made out of sugar cane extracts, another important crop from this region. In the end, if time permits, we will spend some time riding a cable car to the other side of the mountain where the views are amazing.

Since the farm is close to the city I will pick you up at your hotel at your time of choosing between 8 am and 9 am. The ride is only about 40 km to the place where our host will pick us up, just outside of a long tunnel, leaving the Aburra Valley, where the city of Medellin is.
From there we will go the farm and visit the plantation, taste the special coffees, of course, and hear all the stories about coffee making form our host then tour the farm and mill if they are making sugar blocks of 'panela'.
We will have lunch at the farm and after that, we can go to the cable car to cross the valley for the amazing views on the other side of the mountain (depending on the cable schedule). If time and weather permit we can ask the driver to take an alternate route through the mountains (avoiding the long tunnel) and visit a paragliding take off spot where you can choose to do a tandem flight of about 20 minutes over Medellin (cost of flight not included!), or just enjoy the view of the city. Back to the city.

A Recent Review of this tour

Wonderful experience with a great guide. Highly recommended. Juan picked us up, right on time. He was very caring, knowledgeable and a social person. The tour exceeded our expectations. We visited a small plantation and met Carlos, a special farmer with a mission. He is passionate about coffee and his farm produces high quality coffee beans. The ride on mules and horses was fantastic as was the traditional lunch at the creek. It was a full day, filled with great experiences. We enjoyed it tremendously.
