Great Shore Excursion for Cruise Ship Passengers Stopping In AKAROA (but NOT Port Lyttelton)......up to 11 pax !
Discover the "Garden City" with a day tour of central city landmarks, the Port Hills, Lyttelton Harbour. . . . . . . Christchurch city is in rebuild mode after the Feb 22, 2011 earthquake so the city centre is very busy . . . . the Cathedral can be seen up close and many find the Temporary "Cardboard" Cathedral an interesting structure (great acoustics inside). Canterbury Museum is open and next to it are the beautiful Botanic Gardens. As well as Akaroa you also get to see Banks Penninsula, the Hilltop, Barry's Bay Cheese Factory (try samples !)and Little River(craft shops etc). There are great views across the Canterbury Plains to the Southern Alps from the Port Hills above Christchurch and the Port of Lyttelton is always an interesting stop.
This is a suggested tour. . . . . we are very happy to include other options such as Birdlings Flat (gemstone beach, Sumner Beach, The International Antarctic Centre, Willowbank Wildlife Park(see kiwis), Air Force World, Wine-tasting etc. as long as time permits.
Our Christchurch Day Tour for cruise ship passengers starts in Akaroa usually around 9AM when we meet you at the end of the wharf after your arrival by tender from your cruise ship.
We take a leasurely journey through Akaroa, Banks Peninsula over some scenic extinct volcanic rims to Christchurch taking stops at the Hilltop for photos, Barry's Bay Cheese Factory (sample some !), Little River (art gallery/craft co-operative) and Sign of the Takahe. From high on the Port Hills the Southern Alps can be seen 50 miles away across the Canterbury Plains.
The Botanic Gardens and Canterbury Museum are in the centre of the city. . . . you have some free time here to explore. We can walk up close to Christchurch Cathedral and check out the new innovative shopping precinct created with lots of flair from shipping containers. Find out about the quakes and future plans for the Garden City.
We drive back through the New Zealand countryside and enjoy the farms on either side of the road. You are back in Akaroa about 4pm.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: CRUISE SHIP DAY EXCURSION PASSENGERS....We can meet you at the town end of the wharf at Akaroa (you will be brought ashore by tender...small boat) and I will be holding a small sign .
End location: Cruise Ship PASSENGERS ....At the end of the day we will drop you back at Akaroa Wharf or another point in Akaroa so you can walk back through the village.
Duration: 6 hours 30 min.
Our vehicle is a modern air-conditioned Toyota HiAce 2013 tour vehicle with microphone for guide commentary and adjusting seat backs.....Maximum capacity is 11 passengers.
If you are more than 11 and need a larger vehicle I can create a customised tour for you.
The services of your guide and transport in our LTNZ Licenced vehicle are included. Our vehicle is a modern 2013 Toyota Hiace Minibus with 11 passenger seats and a microphone for commentary. We have air-conditioning and the seatbacks can be adjusted. The seat configuration is 2+1 passengers along the back two rows with 2 passengers per row in the front 2 rows. There is one seat next to the driver (great for those who love photography).IE from the rear 1+2,1+2, 2, 2 and 1 passenger seat(front). Single seats are 42 cm wide (approx. 14 inches) and double seats are 89 cm wide (approx. 30 inches for 2 pax)
We are licenced to operate under both a SPSL (small pax service licence) and a LPSL (large pax service licence...over 11 pax) if needed.
