A peaceful walk in nature, not too difficult and certainly enjoyable. For a good taste of a Cretan gorge without too much fuss.
The Syrikari Gorge is a nice gorge for those who enjoy a peaceful walk in nature; it's not too demanding, it's not here to test your skills but to offer you "easy access" to Crete's virgin fauna and flora. This is not to say that it's a walk in the park (you will need your boots) but it's "doable" and you will exit the gorge with this uplifting feeling of having enjoyed a good 2 hours of hiking, seen some of the most impressive landscapes that Chania has to offer without exhausting yourself. Past the end of the gorge itself, should you decide to take this tour all the way, we come across the village of Polyrinia, (we will drive to there). At about a 45 minute-hike after the village, to the end of the whole route that started in Syrikari, lies Ancient Polyrinia a dominant city-state in ancient times.
In conclusion, this goes down as a great hiking adventure from present time to antiquity in a few hours
- From your place of lodging in the greater area of Chania to the beginning of the gorge
- From the end of the gorge our driver takes us to the village of Polyrinia and we hike to Ancient Polyrinia and back
- return to where you stay.
** In case of bad weather this tour cannot be done (mainly for security reasons). So, we can wait for the next day with good weather to take the tour, or, after prior communication, opt for a tour to protected venues e. g. the "Cretan Palate" or the "Cook-out" tours.
