birdwatching in cretan nature
In this birdwatching tour we will visit three different areas where we will try spot migratory and resident bird species.
Starting from Chania we will visit Gramvoussa, the western most peninsula of Crete, part of the local migratory route. We will stop at a church which will be our birdwatching spot. During our drive we will have the chance to stop and watch other species that we may spot.
After Gramvousa, we will head towards Deliana gorge where after a short walk we can observe Griffon vultures that are ususally seen there.
Once it gets hot, we can have a break for a lunch in Rodopou peninsula, in the area of Afrata.
Back to birdwatching. Before heading back to Chania, We will visit the lake of Agia where we can walk by the lake and stop to spot the local fauna.
As with all wildlife tours, there can be no guarantee of spotting specific species. However this tour is designed so that it combines three different ecosystems, visiting areas of natural beauty with frequent recorded sightings.
Starting from Chania, we will head west to Gramvoussa peninsula and the observation point. Then we will go to Deliana gorge where we will walk for 15-25 minutes in order to see Griffon vultures. Once back we will drive to Afrata-Rodopou peninsula- for lunch and unforgettable local tastes. Our last birdwatching site is Agia lake.
Our tour ends back in Chania.
