The black town
Let's discover the second largest town in Sicily!
Founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC on foot of the highest volcano in Europe, Catania is also called the Milan of the South thanks to its bustling economic activity.
Rebuilt after the terrible earthquake of 1693 in baroque style, Catania is also called the black town because of the common use of lava stone as a building material!
From the harbour of Catania, we will make a driving tour of the town through the beautiful Via Etnea, the main ancient street, stopping along the way at the Roman amphitheatre, the medieval Castle Ursino and on the University square. Then we will start our walking tour visiting the most popular baroque palaces and churches, having a look at the principal monasteries road, Via Crociferi and of course the Cathedral and its beautiful square with the famous Elephant Fountain. We don't have to miss the fish market, which takes place every morning but not on Sunday.
Free time for shopping and enjoying a nice " granita " or cannolo di ricotta. . . !

My wife and I just competed a tour with Chiara R. in Catania,Sicily. She was: knowledgeable; fluent in English; enthusiastic; adaptable to our request about Jewish history; on time. I give five stars to Chiara and your company.
