Discover a unique volcanic natural reserve in a private tour
Cabo de Gata was declared a Nature Park in 1987, and was the first Andalusian protected area to include a coastline within its boundaries. Not surprisingly, the coastal stripe has beautiful seabeds and a varied wildlife that stands out in the Mediterranean. But the surprises surrounding this corner, that cut the stressful pace of life in Europe off, go beyond the interest of its seabed.
Through this tour you will discover an impressive volcanic landscape that, both on the coast and inland, retains the footprint of the old traditions and history. Artisanal fisheries (optional ecotourism workshop with local fishermen), Phoenician and Roman saltpans, abandoned grain farms, and old "cortijos" share the territory with picturesque white villages where the term "slow life" finds its fairer meaning.
Endemic plants, naked geology and a semi-desert climate, make this protected area, recognized with many different protection figures, one of the most interesting nature reserves on the Mediterranean
This tour will take you to some off the beaten track places in the Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve. We will make a full time panoramic drive, adapted to start and ending locations and to your specific needs. Sightseeing, sea swimming, souvenir and handicraft shopping, guided trekking are included on demand, depending on weather and season.
The usual way (start and end in Almería or around) is to go first to the Cabo de Gata wetlands and volcanic cliffs, then after a confort stop visit some of the most beautiful beaches, and finally visit the Rodalquilar abandoned gold mines and/or the pintoresque Nijar village.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: Around Almería. Depends on your travel plans / accomodation
End location: Usually the same of pick up, but a different one can be arranged
Duration: 9 hours
As many of my tours, there is a high flexibility on duration and itinerary, so most can be adapted to different needs, shortened to a half day visit if you are on a cruise ship and your scale is shorter than the usual duration of the tour.
We will usually use a 7 seater 4x4 or a premium 9 seater van depending on the number of people and your specific needs.
Pick up and drop off at your accommodation into the Cabo de Gata Reserve or around Almería, and visit to the main natural and cultural attractions included in the tour itinerary.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
50 Euro - We will stop for cofee and lunch but they are inexpensive and 50 € per person should be more than enough. Bring extra budget if you expect to buy souvenirs or spend more in meals
Personal expenses, such as meals, souvenirs, etc, and everything not mentioned as included. A very interesting ecotourism workshop with local fishermen can be arranged by extra €100 to learn from them and cooperate in rural development and conservation.
I can not guide visitors to the Monuments in the Catalog of Historic and Artistic Heritage (including the Al-hambra), so I will always recommend hiring a specialized and licensed local guide
