A day trip from Pakse
Experience the Bolaven Plateau located in Champasak and Salavan provinces. A great day tour from Pakse. See the Waterfalls of Tad Fane, Tad Yuang and Tad Lo. Visit ethnic villages and stop in Paksong to see tea and coffee plantations.
Departing Pakse climb in elevation as you ascend onto the Plateau. The Bolaven Plateau is an area of Volcanic Rock which makes for suburb tea and coffee plantations thriving on the rich soil and the cooler climate. Visit tea and coffee plantations before carrying on to Tad Fane Waterfall. Tad Fane waterfall sits at an elevation of 1100m and has two stunning cascades dropping 120m off the edge of the plateau.
Then onto Tad Yuang Waterfall which makes a great spot for a swim or a photo. Continue north along the Plateau travelling past Paksong and into Salavan Province. Stop at the loca Katu Village of Kok Pungtai learn about this ethnic group and their tradition of building their own coffins.
At Tad Lo you will also have the opportunity to take a walk to a Laven Village about 2km upstream of Tad Lo if you would like.
The last stop before returning to Pakse is the ethnic village of Lao Ngam, home of the Katu people and has a strong tradition of silk weaving.
The trip covers about 220 km on good roads
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: I am happy to pick you up at your hotel. If you are starting the tour directly on arriving into Pakse I am also able to meet you at the bus station or at the airport.
End location: You will be dropped off at your hotel after the tour ends. If you prefer an alternative drop off location just let me know.
Duration: 9 hours
This trip normally lasts for 8 or 9 hours. There is off course flexibility and the trip can start or finish earlier or later and can be adapted to meet your requirements.
I use modern Hyundai or Toyota Commuter minivans depending on the number or people. All vehicles have seatbelts, airconditioning and are very comfortable. The short 2km walk to the local village is optional but is a very easy walk suitable for all.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
50000 Kip - This works out at about $6 USD and would cover your lunch. You may also be interested in buying some coffee or souvenirs. In this case you would probably spend a total of between $5-$20 USD.
I can customize the itinerary to meet your needs and interests. Please contact me if you have any special request.
