The Quuentsential, Comprehensive Private Memphis Music History Tour
"MEMPHIS, THE HOME OF THE BLUES AND THE BIRTHPLACE OF ROCK N ROLL!" Though a couple of cities have experienced a greater surge in production and recording of pop music in the last decade or two, Memphis is the point where future Blues artists and Rock Stars migrated to hone their skills and gain their reputations. It was a melting pot and the incubator for at least three major forms of popular music before they started hyphenating and lumping forms together.
On my Blues and Rock n Roll Roots Tour we'll trace the points where the 1st published, recorded Blues songs were written to the intersection which welcomed young B. B. King, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson and many others to Beale St. and a young Caucasian kid hearing the sound wailed the 1st Rock n Roll.
You want American Idols?, we'll tell stories of the real thing, and with a little luck talk to one or two who knew them.
We'll begin with a visit with the Peabody Ducks and another hotel highlight or two, including stories of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis there at the Peabody, then on to trace the Blues and Rock n Roll up Beale Street, pause by Ol' Man River and Beale Street Landing to have lunch (on your own) and talk about river lore, then back up to the Peabody for a rooftop visit to summarize our music and river trek from above. We'll end with a story about something which happened there you'll probably never forget!

Doug was amazing. I hadn't tipped him off ahead of time, but he hit our sweet spot with his knowledge of the history of Memphis' importance in the history of its music: rock, blues, rockabilly, etc., Elvis was huge and his growing up in Memphis clearly shaped his music, but the blues and country and rock in combination is so amazingly important here. And Doug knew the history and had many great stories. Doug also has referred us to a number of great restaurants and other sights here. Great trip.
