Find ToursByLocals at Travel Industry Events

(back to blog)

Being an online travel company is great. We love using technology to facilitate in-person connections between our travelers and guides. But sometimes those of us in the office need a bit of human contact too! And that’s when we head to industry events: not twitter chats, webinars or Skype meetings, but physical spaces where we can meet and greet and shake hands with those who work in our industry.

ToursByLocals has been busy this November meeting with travel agents, media contacts and industry partners at major travel networking events. The World Travel Market in London and this week’s PhocusWright Convention in Fort Lauderdale provide excellent opportunities to generate conversations that help us understand and meet our market’s needs.

Sara Cooke, our Director of Communications, was in London from November 4th to 7th for the 16th annual World Travel Market. Held at the ExCel Centre in East London's Docklands, this massive travel event played host to over 50,000 industry members from every corner of the world. The highlight of the conference was attending a talk led by Xavier Font and Justin Francis, noted industry experts in responsible tourism. Their insights on how to communicate the benefits of local, sustainable models of tourism resonated with the way we do business at ToursByLocals.

Today company president Paul Melhus has flown to Fort Lauderdale to meet with the movers and shakers at PhoCusWright Conference 2013. PhocusWright are the acknowledged leaders in market intelligence and trend-forecasting for the travel industry, and the next few days will provide Paul with a look at the impact that technology is having on traveler expectations. It will also be the perfect place to exchange ideas with other leaders and visionaries in the travel industry who are keen to push boundaries and exceed those expectations. (Are you there too? Let Paul know! Tweet @pmelhus.)

And after that, what’s next for us? A return to Florida for cruise3Sixty in June, and maybe the L.A. Times Travel Show in January or New York Times Travel Show in March ...we haven’t picked our favourite yet! Once our 2014 conference and trade show schedule is finalised, we’ll let you know, so that if you’re there too, you can find us and say “hello.”
