How You Can Help Passports With Purpose Raise $115,000

(back to blog)

ToursByLocals is proud to be participating in the 2013 Passports With Purpose fundraiser. Now in its sixth year, this travel-blogger driven initiative has consistently shown that a strong online community of like-minded travelers can have a positive impact on a real world community in need.

Passports With Purpose aims to unite and harness the passion of the online travel community to achieve one common goal: giving back to destinations worldwide. Each year they pick one charity and project on which to focus their fundraising efforts; this year the goal is to raise $115,000 to help an organization called buildOn construct three schools and adult literacy programs in the Sikasso region of southern Mali, Africa. buildOn’s mission is to “break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low expectations through service and education.”

ToursByLocals has donated a $250 gift certificate good towards any of the almost 10,000 tours on our site. Travel Blogger Keryn Means of Walking on Travels is the travel blogger responsible for promoting our prize and encouraging the travel community to donate $10 for the chance of winning it in an online raffle. The fundraiser starts at midnight tonight (November 25) and ends on December 9.

The countless happy, enlightened travelers we hear from every day are constant proof that each trip we take is unique and personal, with the power to both educate and transform. Please consider spreading some of your good fortune to help another community experience its own positive transformation. You can donate here: Donate to Passports with Purpose.
