Passports With Purpose aims to unite and harness the passion of the online travel community to achieve one common goal: giving back to destinations worldwide. Each year they pick one charity and project on which to focus their fundraising efforts; this year the goal is to help an organization called Sustainable Harvest International. SHI is committed to combating malnutrition by teaching families in Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama how to plant organic vegetable gardens and fruit trees and build fishponds and chicken coops, while protecting the local environment.
Funds raised will provide the training and tools needed to feed families in Honduras and improve their standard of living while restoring the environment. SHI can help one family for five years with every $5,000 raised by Passports With Purpose.
To help Passports with Purpose reach its goal, ToursByLocals has donated a $300 gift certificate good towards any of the almost 10,000 tours on our site. Travel Blogger Claudia Laroye of The Travelling Mom is the travel blogger responsible for promoting our prize and encouraging members of the travel community to donate $10 for the chance of winning it in an online raffle. The fundraiser starts at midnight tonight (December 1st) and ends on December 17th.
The countless happy, enlightened travelers we hear from every day are constant proof that each trip we take is unique and personal, with the power to both educate and transform. Please consider spreading some of your good fortune to help another community experience its own positive transformation. You can donate here: Donate to Passports with Purpose.
