Celebrating One Million Travelers!

(back to blog)

So something pretty exciting happened at ToursByLocals this weekend: we celebrated ONE MILLION travelers going on tour with us!

The timing couldn’t be better, as in 10 days we’ll be celebrating our ten-year anniversary. 10 years in business and 1,000,000 travelers served…not bad!

To celebrate reaching a million, we flew our Director of Communications to San Francisco, and surprised a pair of ToursByLocals travelers while they were on tour.

Cathie and Matt Odom were using ToursByLocals for the first time, and had booked a 4.5 hour “Highlights of San Francisco” tour with long-time guide Caesar (who has delivered over 550 tours to ToursByLocals travelers since 2013!) Sara surprised the pair at Fort Point, just steps from the Golden Gate Bridge, in the middle of their tour. It was a gorgeous sunny day, and the iconic bridge provided a fantastic backdrop to the celebratory moment.

We gave Cathie and Matt a $1000 gift certificate and a gift bag full of enough ToursByLocals swag (hats, water bottles, stickers, pins…) to last a lifetime – or at least until we reach the 2 million mark. Even before they received the gift certificate, the Odoms were set to become repeat travelers: their next tour (with guide Jan Patrick) is in Los Angeles tomorrow!

Sara and photographer Vanille had a whirlwind 36 hours in San Francisco, spending time on their own tour with guide Thomas, and filming live updates around the city. You can check those out on our Facebook page!

Congratulations to every single one of our 2731 guides, whose passion, dedication, charm and prodigious talents have turned us into the world’s largest provider of private tours. It goes without saying, but we’re going to say it anyway: we could not have reached this one million mark without them!
