Meeting Guides on the Ground: London, Paris, LA, Chicago and Philadelphia

(back to blog)

November was a busy month of travel for the ToursByLocals office team, as staff jetted off to London, Paris, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia. While the main purpose of these trips was to attend trade shows, conferences and industry networking events, meeting our guides in each location was what made them special.

In London, Sara (the company's Director of Communications) met with Alex from Devon, Mike from Leeds and Simon from East London at the World Travel Market. Thursday night in Soho saw a merry band of guides enjoying drinks at the Crown and Two Chairmen: Philippa and Amanda from Kent and Steve from Southampton. The jewel in the crown was enjoying a private "Harry Potter" tour with London guide Richard, followed by a traditional pub lunch at one of the city's oldest drinking establishments.

A quick jaunt to Paris included dinner, drinks and excellent conversation with Isabelle, Gustavo and David at La Fresque, a traditional French bistro in Les Halles.

Over in LA, Paul (company President) and Luciano (Director of Business Development) made time to fit in a dinner in Santa Monica with guide Jan Patrick after an intense 3-days of presentations and meetings at the PhocusWright Travel Conference.

David (Account Manager, Travel Agents) had two travel agent trade shows to attend in Chicago and Atlantic City. He met with guides in Chicago, and also took a train from Atlantic City to meet more in nearby Philadelphia. In both cities, David got the full ToursByLocals experience, enjoying dinner with guides Nancy and Lynn in the iconic Walnut Room at Macy's while they regaled him with "insider" stories of Chicago, past and present. He saw more of the city the next day with Mimi, who showed him what exists below the streets of Chicago, as well as above ground.

In Philadelphia, David walked all around the city with guides Richard and Sheldon, seeing historic highlights like Independence Square, Betsy Ross' house, and the first Congress Building. Walking the charming cobbled streets with the local guides made it clear why the city is such a hit with visitors.

We never take it for granted that this amazing network of ToursByLocals guides is waiting to meet us no matter where we travel. We cherish their hospitality and enthusiasm for their cities and their guiding profession! Thank you to everyone we met this month; we deeply value our partnership and your friendship.
