How to Book a Multi-Day Tour

(back to blog)

ToursByLocals is best known for helping travelers make the most of a single day. Every year, our guides around the world take travelers on literally tens of thousands of tours ranging anywhere from 2 to 12 hours long. But did you know you can also book multi-day tours with our guides – even multi-week?

Our guides don’t always list these tours as obvious options in their profiles. That’s because, typically, a multi-day tour is highly customized: the guide and traveler have an extensive conversation via email to determine the full itinerary. Of course, like any tour on our site, there’s always room for flexibility and spontaneity while on tour. The tour cost includes the guide services, private transportation, and any entrance fees, but usually accommodation is separate (although guides are happy to make recommendations and help with reservations.)

To start the process of creating one of these itineraries, just send an introductory message to a guide of your choice in the region you want to visit.

We’ve found certain places are more popular than others when for multi-day tour bookings. We see them most often in places like Peru, Ireland, Madagascar, Sicily, India, China, Russia, Morocco, Egypt and Iceland.

While multi-day bookings are usually customized to individual travelers, we do have a number of popular itineraries that get booked exactly as is, or with only slight modifications. Here are a handful of some of our most popular, tried and true multi-day itineraries: one on each continent.

Someone once asked us what's the longest tour one of our guides has led. We think it's this one! 23-day loop of Madagascar.

One of the best perks of booking a guide for multiple days is the very solid friendship that forms between traveler and guide – it can sometimes make it difficult to say goodbye! Here’s an example of the sort of magic that can happen when a passionate local guide helps you plan the trip of your dreams:

“Ravo was perfect. He did not just give us a package tour, he took the time to learn about us and what we wanted and liked and created the perfect tour for us. We wanted to see local culture and he took us to Famadihana. Ravo was able to make for us the perfect holiday that we had dreamed of. We saw so much of the true life of the wonderful people of Madagascar. He is much more than just a normal guide; he is a 'fantasy' maker. He turned Madagascar in to Fantasy Island for us. He was perfect!” – Gail Orenstein USA

So go ahead: send a message to the guide in the destination you’ve been dreaming about, and see what sort of travel magic you can cook up together.
