Happy Halloween!

(back to blog)

If you live in North America, Halloween is pretty hard to miss. Carved pumpkins adorn many stoops, along with cobwebs, faux gravestones, ghosts, ghouls and great big hairy spiders. Today millions of children headed off to school in their costumes for a day of haunted houses and orange-cupcake-inspired sugar-highs.

While the excess of sugar that’s coming their way tonight is surely lamentable, I’m still relishing the thought of trick or treating. On this one night, everyone opens their doors to their neighbours, as the streets come alive with little witches and wizards, princesses and super-heros. Parents stroll along the sidewalk with mugs of coffee (perhaps laced with something stronger!) while groups of kids race from house to house. Doorbells ring, shouts of “trick or treat!” coincide with ghostly sound effects, and laughter is everywhere. It’s a great time to enjoy a strong sense of community.
