Heading to the Netherlands this Summer? Don't Miss the Floriade!

(back to blog)

Travelers to the Netherlands are in for an extra special treat this summer: a-once-in-a-decade horticultural show that puts even the spectacular blooms at Keukenhof in its shadow. The Floriade is a horticultural expo that showcases the world’s best flowers, plants, trees, fruits and vegetables, and is expected to draw upwards of 2 million visitors this summer.

Earlier this year, in anticipation of the festival, CNN named the Floriade one of the “World’s Top Destinations for 2012”.

Venlo, a renowned “green” city in the south-eastern Dutch province of Limburg, is hosting the 2012 Floriade. The festival opens its doors in less than a week, on April 5th and will remain open every day until October 7th 2012.

The Floriade Park covers 66 hectares and encompasses 5 unique themed worlds separated by wooded areas. Each world has its own decor, program and activities. The organizers promise that “in each world, you'll see, feel and experience nature in a totally different way.”

Arts, culture and entertainment are a big part of Floriade; every day will see exciting acrobatic, dance, theatre and lights shows to celebrate Limburg culture, nature and the fruits of the harvest. Children as well as adults are catered for with shows for all ages.
