Will you be in Paris September 27th?

(back to blog)

Stop the presses: we've just learned about a marvellous thing happening in Paris next month. If you're going to be in the French capital on September 27th (and we know from our guides' busy calendars that many of you will) then you're in for a treat.

Anne Hidalgo, the city's mayor, has declared September 27th to be a journée sans voiture - a car-free day. Streets in the city's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th and 11th arrondissements will be closed to vehicle traffic. This includes the fabled neighbourhoods of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Marais, Île Saint-Louis , the Latin Quarter, the Champs-Élysées...and on and on.

This is an opportunity to experience the city as no one ever gets to see it. As Hidalgo explains, “Paris will be completely transformed for a day. This is an opportunity for Parisians and tourists to enjoy the city without noise, pollution and therefore without stress.”

The traffic restrictions will be in place from 11am to 6pm on Sunday September 27th.

Will you be there? If you're out and about exploring with David, Pamela, Genevieve, Isabelle, Eugenie, Alois, Maria...or any of our incredible Parisian guides that day, send us your photos! We'd love to see what a Paris without cars looks like. You can share photos to our Facebook page or email them to us! press@toursbylocals.com.
