Our Ten Favourite Reviews from 2018!

(back to blog)

Did you know we read every single review our travelers leave for their guides? On average, it's around 3500 a month, the vast majority of them 5 stars. Each month we compile a shortlist of our favourites - those reviews that speak to a particularly special or exceptional experience with a local guide, and share it among all staff. It's a great reminder for us of what ToursByLocals exists to do: make travel better.

As you can imagine, by the end of 2018, we had A LOT of amazing reviews. So we decided to celebrate a few of our favourites by creating a live broadcast on our Facebook page! If you've already seen the video, and are curious about how to find the amazing guides mentioned in it, links to their profiles on our website are below, alongside each review.

Ten of Our Favourite Reviews from 2018

"If you are like me and spend a lot of time researching tour guides, then let me tell you about Anne. My 15yr old son and I had one day to see Paris. Anne was AMAZING! She really knows her Paris history and is nice and easy going, you feel like you've been friends forever. She showed us more in one day, than I thought was possible. I wish we had planned to stay in Paris for many days just so we could have spent more time with Anne. Without hesitation, book with her! My son is still talking about the tour!"

"This was my 1st trip with ToursByLocals, but I am a seasoned traveller. Without a doubt, JAKE W was by far the BEST guide ever! He is extremely knowledgable and personable and was dedicated to making this an amazing experience for us. Jake is an historian with a deep knowledge of the Civil Rights era. He participated in the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery and was able to share so many insights and details. This was a life-changing experience for me. Everyone should take this tour with Jake!"

"We arrived from our cruise ship and Darko was right on the pier waiting for us. From the minute we shook hands we felt like we had all been friends for a long time. His tour took us through the old town as well as to some other very interesting and fun spots that I know no one on our ship tour were able to see. He was so knowledgable and loved showing us his Dubrovnik. The only problem - we needed more time with Darco -- like a FULL WEEK! Thank you Darco! Hope to be back soon."

"My wife and I have traveled extensively -- over 79 countries and still counting. We have been on dozens and dozens of tours, from those booked through cruise lines, large travel companies such as Tauck and Grand Circle, and other Tours By Locals as well. We can honestly say this tour by Ela V was the BEST tour ever. She is extremely professional and does a tremendous job of providing lots of historic and cultural information. Let me add she is a ton fun also! Highly recommended..."

"How she did it, I'll never know! Vivian guided three generations of my family's women (ages 11 to 75) around London on a lovely summer afternoon. Bless her heart, Vivian answered endless silly questions, kept the wanderers from getting lost, and did all this with a smile on her face. She is knowledgeable, professional, and charming. If there were ten stars on the rating form, I would give Vivian all ten of those."

"We are loyal, repeat ToursByLocals clients and having Steeve as our guide in Quebec City is the exact reason why we are! Throughout our touring years we have spent time with many guides, however, none have been as knowledgeable, professional yet personal, caring, and passionate. Steeve has a wealth of knowledge that enabled us to clearly visualize the impact of historical events on Quebec, Canada, and the US. He is absolutely amazing!"

"This was our 40th anniversary and we wanted it to be special. It totally met our expectations and we will not forget the thoughtfulness that Dofri put into our trip and experiences. We saw some very striking places with a wide variety of topography- beaches, volcanos, waterfalls, glaciers, and even climbed to the top of a lava mound. We had lunch at a very sweet restaurant in a small village that was delicious and very special. We thank Dofri for his company and for making our celebration one to remember."

"Absolutely BRILLIANT!! I give this tour and tour guide (Matilde) my highest rating. In fact, in all the traveling I've done in the last 20 years, Matilde is the finest guide I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Her knowledge of Lisbon and Portugal's history, her passion for her heritage and culture and her willingness to adjust the itinerary to meet our specific interests was truly exceptional. She was also a very friendly and engaging person. Matilde is a credit to ToursByLocals."

"Learning about ToursByLocals was one of "life's blessings." While visiting Halifax, NS, Ca we requested Jay W who accommodated our schedule for an enjoyable afternoon of education, fun facts and ideal scenic views. Jay is quite an historian, educator and scholar. His years of study and subsequent insight into not only Halifax, but also Nova Scotia and Canadian history, produce an unsurpassed tour guide. We are now spoiled in our travel expectations and undoubtedly will contact Tours by Locals again."

"No dating service could find a better match! Vishnu was a true blessing, and we will remain life-long friends. His expert help, kindness, and willingness to go the extra mile saved our entire tour and meeting him was worth the trip to India! He was genuine, warm, and very resourceful. We will be forever grateful to Tours by Locals and Vishnu of course for the most memorable and productive tour possible."
