ToursByLocals in the News

(back to blog)

ToursByLocals guides have been enjoying time in the media spotlight this summer. They are appearing on camera, in print and online as TV hosts, travel bloggers and journalists share their ToursByLocals experiences. Below is a round up of some of our star guides who have been popping up in the news lately.

TBL guide Lois recently toured the trails of Vancouver’s North Shore with Pamela Wade, winner of Cathay Pacific Travel Media “Travel Writer of the Year” Award. Pamela’s article on her time in Vancouver and BC will be published in the Auckland Herald this September, but she’s already dedicated a blog article to her experience hiking the Baden Powell Trail in Deep Cove.

Also in Vancouver, guide Winston spent a half day in May with award-winning travel writer Tom Sweeney. Tom was on assignment with Sunday World, one of Ireland’s largest newspapers. In addition to being a journalist for various print news outlets, Tom manages one of Europe’s top travel blogs: Tom Sweeney Travels. He writes about his time with Winston here: Tom Sweeney Travels.

In the Globe and Mail's Saturday Travel Section this weekend, the Travel Concierge suggested ToursByLocals guides as a great way to see the city of San Francisco: "ToursByLocals offers dozens of cool ways to hit the sidewalks with a San Franciscan, from neighbourhood strolls to photography jaunts."

Just this week, Aitor in San Sebastian, Spain met with a journalist and photographer from Audi Magazine and spent the day showing them around the historic seaside city. We’ll share the article once it’s published, but for now, we’ve included a photo of their day together at the top of the page.

Three of our guides in Asia – Chie in Tokyo, Lowey in Chiang Mai and Swai in Bangkok – starred in Arthur van Wiesenberger’s online travel series “Around the World.” Arthur and his two sons took a whirlwind trip through Asia this June with recording equipment in tow. Audio broadcasts were aired on AM1290 Radio in Santa Barbara and video can be found at Around the World TV.

Finally, Austrian guide Marieta took “The Lazy Travelers” – a female travel-blogging duo – to her home in Vienna where they spent a rainy afternoon learning to make traditional apple strudel. You can read about their experience here: Lazy Travels meet Marieta.

...and that’s the press round-up for this month! Thanks to our guides for being such wonderful ambassadors for ToursByLocals.
