New Orleans voted #1 American City to Visit

(back to blog)

This November, Travel and Leisure Magazine voted New Orleans the best city in America to visit. And coincidentally, we've recently added New Orleans to our list of ToursByLocals destinations! We had been looking for a long time for the right guide for this unique city; someone who could convey the essence of this one-of-a-kind place, with its melange of cultures and sensibilities. David fit the bill.

A tour guide with a background in American history, David is perfect for leading walking tours of New Orleans' historic French Quarter, a visitor hot spot, and what David calls "the oldest and most vibrant neighborhood in the city." He'll make 300 years of history come alive as you walk down the atmospheric narrow streets and through Jackson Square and Pirates Alley. Settled by the French, ruled by the Spanish, recognized as the second largest port of entry for Italian immigrants in the 19th century, the heart of New Orleans feels almost European.

David will also happily jump on a streetcar and head out to the leafy Garden District with you to explore one of the best-preserved collections of historic southern mansions in the United States.

Of course you can't come to New Orleans and not indulge in some traditional Louisiana cooking! David can suggest the best places to hit up for gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish, crumbly pralines and beignets. He can also recommend where to go to hear some great jazz - or maybe blues, R&B, gospel, Cajun, country and folk music, zydeco, Afro-Caribbean and bluegrass - all an important part of the city's musical heritage.

We welcome David to the ToursByLocals team, and we invite you to get to know him on a private New Orleans tour.
