Some sad news

(back to blog)

Our Vancouver office was extremely saddened to learn of the death of one of our guides in Poland yesterday. Maria Margaret Skierniewska was a long-term guide in Poland, and an inspiration to many younger guides who looked to her for support and wisdom.

Her friend and fellow guide in Warsaw, Monika, has written a few words about Maria Margaret that we’d like to share today.

Maria Margaret - for us Małgosia - was an amazing Mother and Grandmother. Very warm and loving. Devoted to her familly. But also very much loving her work. That was something everyone immediately could recognize after the first few minutes. For many years she worked in the tourism field. Malgosia was full of passion, enthusiasm and always full of energy. I do not remember her ever without her smile - even when she was fighting with cancer. So strong - taking chemotherapy for months and still between treatments working, taking groups or individual clients around her beloved city. She was one of the very best tour guides and local guides I have ever met. With outstanding knowledge on history past and present, politics, culture - no matter what it was. She was always willing to help; indeed it was Malgosia who taught me how to be a guide. I wish one day I will know as much as she knows and be as good in what I do as she was.

Thank you for sharing your memories of Maria Margaret, Monika. We are sad to lose such a strong and supportive member of our team in Poland. Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this time.
