The question we wanted answered today was: which of our 1649 guides were the busiest in 2015? Below, we’re going to share the names of the 10 guides who booked the most tours this year; if you’re thinking of booking a tour with one of them in 2016, we’d advise you to book soon, as their spring and summer calendars are already filling up quickly!
1. Tomislav in Dubrovnik
Maintaining his hold on the number one spot for the second year running is Tomislav, with 180 tours! His hometown of Dubrovnik was the location used in the hit TV series Game of Thrones, and Tom’s runaway success is partly driven by the wonderful tours he’s created for fans of the show. But he’s not a one-trick pony. The other part of his success comes from his engaging personality and superb knowledge of all things Dubrovnik.
2. David in Paris
David was our busiest guide in Paris this year (the most popular destination for ToursByLocals travelers.) He’s done everything from macaron-themed tours to organizing marriage proposals at the Eiffel Tower. Travelers love how he imparts local knowledge along with history, and the way he helps Paris come alive for them. Things got difficult in Paris at the end of this year. David hopes (along with our other Parisian guides) that travellers continue to visit his beautiful city in 2016.
3. Francisco M. in Barcelona
Barcelona has become increasingly popular in the last five years, and our guide Francisco, with his deep knowledge of Gaudi, is an excellent person to help you understand why. As a professional photographer, Francisco will take photos of your day (and can give you tips to take better ones); he’ll send them to you once you’ve returned home from vacation.
4. Pepe A. in Madrid
Before becoming a private guide, Pepe’s career saw him working internationally in Michelin-starred restaurants. If you love to immerse yourself in the local scene, and also enjoy discovering good food and wine, Pepe is the right guide for you. He can deliver both a sparkling tour of the city’s highlights, or a more intimate look at the daily life of Madrileños. Or a blend of the two! The choice is yours.
5. Dino in Rome
Dino gave 160 ToursByLocals tours of his beloved city of Rome in 2015. Dino has a PhD in Roman History, but his “lectures” around the city include gelato, Italian wine and his lively sense of humour. Dino wants his travelers to fall in love with Rome, just as he did many years ago. You can’t go wrong exploring the city with him.
6. Ken in Kyoto
Our Japanese guides were again very popular this year, especially in Kyoto; Ken alone delivered over 150 tours. He has homes in both Kyoto and the ancient city of Nara and leads tours around both areas. Ken’s interests are many: history, art, literature, Haiku, business, economy, anime, martial art, Ninja and bird watching. Travelers routinely praise his deep knowledge of local culture, and his eagerness to impart it during his tours.
7. Chizuko in Kyoto
Chizuko takes travelers on cultural tours of Kyoto, which sometimes include traditional tea ceremonies, visits to markets and even a cooking lesson at her own home. Her deep knowledge of Japanese culture and history are routinely praised by travellers, like this one: “We left our tour filled with information, and feeling that we got a real taste of Japan.”
8. Isabelle B in Paris
Travellers love Isabelle. Her passion for and knowledge of all things Parisian is unmatched. As she writes in her profile: “I like to think that the rapport between a guide and his/her clients implies that a subtle music is written, a dynamic is enjoyed and that knowledge is shared.” Whether you’re visiting Versailles, the Louvre or the more intimate backstreets of Paris, Isabelle is a wonderful person to have at your side.
9. Sunil in Dubai
Sunil holds a very special distinction on our site: he has delivered more tours than any other ToursByLocals guide! By the time you read this, Sunil will have spent time with over 600 different groups of travellers since he began working with us in 2010. He loves his city of Dubai and loves sharing that passion with guests from around the world.
10. Jiri in Prague
Jiri was born and raised in Prague, and offers tours of the “golden city” and all throughout the Czech Republic. Travelers are always complimenting him on his vast knowledge – particularly of the history of Jewish Prague – and on his amazing energy. Heading to Prague? Don’t miss the chance to spend time with Jiri!
Congratulations to these guides for all the work they’ve done with ToursByLocals in the past year (and years previous!) We’ve only listed here the ten guides who booked the most tours, and we’re compelled to add that they represent just a small handful of the wonderful, dedicated, and deeply knowledgeable people on our site.
