An authentic rural, cultural and gastronomy experience...by bike
After pick up from Valencia and a scenic drive north-west, we arrive in Barracas where the bikes will be waiting for us. Ojos Negros is a converted antique coal train route that cuts through stunning landscape, a mixture of forest and cultivated fields. Castellón is the most mountainous province in Europe outside of Swiss provinces, with a continuous buckling relief . When it was first built, to ship coal from the interior, the route was made to follow the line of least resistance downwards towards the coast and as a result, the bike trail today follows a gently, almost continuous, downward gradient towards Sagunto and Valencia. Electric bikes are available to make it really pleasant.
We stop for morning tea and a visit to the interior of the bell tower in Jerica (once home to generations of bell-ringers) then head down to the river for an exquisite 3 course lunch Mediterranean cooking. The itinerary can include a river swim for hotter days, afternoon tea in Navajas, or tapas in Segorbe before heading back.
