Bike tour of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes

We will drive to the Midtown Bike Center (on the Midtown Greenway bike path) to pick up and adjust the bike(s) that you will have chosen and rented on-line (see What's Extra below).

We will start the tour by getting on the Midtown Greenway bike path and biking to nearby Lake of the Isles, with its stately mansions and beautiful islands.

Next, we will go to Bde Ma Ka Ska (formerly Lake Calhoun), with its beaches, volleyball nets, and sailboats.

From there, we will bike over to Lake Harriet, with its bandstand, bird sanctuary, and rose garden.

We will also bike along Minnehaha Creek which winds its way across the south side of the city.

Depending on how far along the creek we go, we will cover from 12 to 20 miles. Regardless of the length, the route of this bike tour is flat, and, while it crosses several streets, it is entirely on bike paths.

Itinerary

Starting at the bike rental shop on the Midtown Greenway bike path, we bike to nearby Lake of the Isles, with its stately mansions and beautiful islands.

Next we will go to Bde Ma Ka Ska (formerly Lake Calhoun), with its beaches, volleyball nets, and sailboats.

From there, we will bike over to Lake Harriet, with its bandstand, bird sanctuary, and rose garden.

If you would like to, we will also bike along Minnehaha Creek which winds its way across the south side of the city, just south of Lake Harriet.

The bike paths are all one-way and they go clockwise around the lakes. So we will head out by biking south along the east sides of Bde Maka Ska and Lake Harriet, and we will return by biking north along the west sides of both lakes. We will conclude the trip back at the bike shop, which is near the north end of Bde Maka Ska (and the south end of Lake of the Isles.
