Discover Belgium's best-kept secret

In medieval times Ghent was one of the most important cities in Europe, bigger than London and second only to Paris. Nowadays it's more pocket-sized, but it has the vibrant energy of a metropolis. Ghent is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbours Bruges, Brussels and Antwerp, but many Belgians call it the most beautiful city of the country.

And Ghent has so much to offer! Highlights include the atmospheric rivers and canals that flow through the centre, the old trading port lined with stunning medieval guild houses, the impressive Castle of the Counts, St Bavo's cathedral with one of Belgium's most famous art works, the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by the Van Eyck brothers.

Ghent is a city with a twist and you'll discover that while watching its peculiar Town Hall or while sitting down and enjoying a local beer at one of the city's café terraces. Ghent is also very much a city of today with its large student population, vibrant cultural scene, trendy shops and good food. Let me show you around!

This walking tour covers the historic center of Ghent. It includes the classic sights and monuments, including the Castle of the Counts (Gravensteen), the old harbour with its medieval guild houses, the Belfry, St Bavo's Cathedral, Town Hall and major city squares. Next to that you will discover some hidden corners and you will be able to experience local tastes and culture. Your tour can be customized to your own fields of interest.

A Recent Review of this tour

Vera was so good at Bruges that we decided to book her again for a walking tour of Ghent. She was able to identify an excellent meeting location for our driver as we were coming from Antwerp. Vera is an excellent and very personable tour guide. We received wonderful attention and feel that we did see and experience the Best of Ghent. Vera has a great personality and sense of humor. We would heartily recommend her to anyone interested in learning more about such a great city.
