3-hour walking tour along the former death strip
The Wall Tour brings you along the former death strip in the city center of Berlin during the Cold War.
The tour covers the Berlin Wall Documentation Center north of downtown Berlin. We walk the "Bernauer Strasse", the street where escape tunnels have been dug, and where people died after jumping out of the windows into the West, because the front of their houses formed the Berlin Wall.
Maps and the open-air exhibition will help you to understand the Wall and what it meant to live in the divided Berlin. On the tour you will get to see original pieces of the Wall, a guard tower and an open-air gallery focusing on the Cold War.
We will ride one of the subways that were called "ghost trains" during the division of the city. I will show you pictures to give you an impression of the gloomy atmosphere close to the Wall.
The tour also covers Checkpoint Charlie, the former military checkpoint and hotspot of the Cold War. This is the site where the fate of mankind was hanging by a thread in 1961.
