The Chouf mountains tour
The main theme of this tour is the search for national self-determination of the Lebanese. When the Lebanese began to realize themselves as a nation? What obstacles they had to overcome? How religious differences were resolved? All these questions we will discuss during this tour.
We will visit the magnificent 19th-century palace complex of Beiteddine, which was built for the governor Emir Bashir Shihab. The palace combines traditional Arab and Italian baroque architectural and decorative elements. The palace consist of three main courts: Dar al-Baraniyyeh (the outer courtyard), Dar al-Wousta ( offices of the ministers) and Dar al-Hiram (private family quarters). It also contains several museums housing various collections, most impressive being a lovely collection of mosaics.
Deir al-Qamar village, the former capital of Mount Lebanon, is one of the best-preserved examples of 17th-18th-century architecture in the country, in which at one time lived peacefully representatives of various faiths.
