As your friendly Tour Guide, I will lead you on a journey through the various villages of Rarotonga. I will introduce you to meet up-to 10 friendly local artisans with an up-close look at their techniques & learning the art of their craftwork. You will see these artisans in action.
Meet an extraordinary traditional woodcarver who shares his passion. Expand your knowledge of this country's rich history and culture through some of his designs & carvings. Learn from a Pearl Farmer about Black Pearls, it's grading and origin. Explore Rarotonga's oldest art & crafts factory since the 1940's and learn here about Rarotonga's past history. I look forward to showing you around the beautiful island of Rarotonga.
Your tour will start in the heart of Avarua town to see and meet a number of locals who make their own locally made products.
Meet a passionate woodcarver then go to Rarotonga's oldest art & crafts factory. See how a Shell-carver makes his beautiful shell jewellery. See how Ukulele's are made and other products which is unique to the Cook Islands. I also take you to the village Muri where you will taste banana liquors and breathe in the amazing aroma of vanilla beans. Next, there's a place where they make Coconut Oil in Tikioki as well as Noni Juice in the Titikaveka village.
Each stop is approximately 15 minutes. Sometimes, if weather is very bad then I can reschedule this tour. Otherwise, Rarotonga weather is often sunny throughout the day.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: My van will have a sign that says Backyard Tours which will be visible on each of the van doors. Transport includes pick up and drop off from your hotel or accommodation or preferred place of pick up. Please ensure you provide the name of hotel, location and your room number at the time of booking.
End location: Once the tour has been completed, I will drop you off or take you anywhere that you want me to take you to get dropped off. Otherwise, drop off is at your hotel or accommodation.
Duration: 4 hours
We don't have traffic problems here in Rarotonga. If there are any concerns, I will let you know ahead of time.
A modern and clean mini-van (up-to 12 people) that is air-conditioned is used to take you around the villages of Rarotonga. You will start in the town area and circle around the Island and visit the local artisans.
Light Refreshments include: Coconut Nu Drink (Fresh drinking coconut), some fruit (when in season) as well as muffins/cupcakes.
Transportation included - Pick up and Drop off to your accommodation or place.
Includes all entrance fees and for the vendors time set aside for visitors.

10 NZD - Amount of cash can vary as you may require some additional food at the Café during a pit-stop. Otherwise, all admission fees and pick up/drop off is included in this tour.
During our travels, there is an opportunity to purchase coffee. Tour Guide will take you to one of the BEST coffee places during the tour. Coffee and other beverages is not included.

Sunday is a sacred day in the Cook Islands. Many of the Main Shops in the Avarua town is closed. There are some activities available on the Sunday. I am only available to advise and recommend what to do on the Sunday.
