History, art and curiosities about the city of the Palio
Asti is a gem of Northern Italy. Less known than other Italian cities, Asti reveals its century-long history in a town centre enriched by medieval towers and noble palaces once owned by powerful banker families, respected all over Europe. Our journey back in time begins at the time of the ancient Romans who founded Hasta, an important outpost toward the Alps. We will admire some painting dating back to the XV century, one of the first examples of Renaissance influence here in Piedmont. The impressive Cathedral, largest work of Gothic architecture in the region, the stories of the old Jews ghetto and the typical covered food market, will be some of the highlights of the tour. A photo-stop in the piazza where the traditional Palio horse race takes place each September, will bring up to life one of the most colorful and passionate events of Italy. Our conversation will include some fun fact and curiosity about local gourmet products, wines and truffles.
