A style and a city that go hand in hand.
The style was not invented here, but it was perfected here (that is a die hard New Yorker's way of looking at it). Some of the greatest examples of the form are here in Manhattan. Some of these buildings are icons, not just of the City but of the style itself and some are lesser known. However they all contribute to what makes the skyline here so great and so recognizable. I will show you both (and places in between), the icons and the not icons; but all reasons that make me so happy and proud that I live here.
We will meet at the clock in Grand Central Terminal, the most beautiful and most perfect train station in the world. That's right, the world. Then we will head outdoors and see just what some forward thinking architects were able to create. We will eventually end up in Times Square, go downtown and head over to the financial district to see how a city ordinance from 1916 will have a hand in effecting architecture and design. Then we will head back uptown to the upper west side and see an art - deco Himalayan mountain (which was the inspiration for the spooky building in the original Ghostbusters). We end near the subway, several bus lines and 17, 000 yellow cabs.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: We will meet at the clock in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Terminal. See the picture above.
End location: At the end of the tour, we will be very near a subway line, the Broadway and Riverside Drive bus lines, yellow cabs, Ubers, Lyfts and Via.
Duration: 4 hours
Variables can change the length of the tour. Traffic, the whims of the New York City Subway system, how fast the group moves, where and what we can or cannot get into depending on the day of the week and the mood of a security guard and how much I talk can effect the length. I usually go over so if you have to be somewhere at a certain time after the tour, please let me know.
We will be using the New York City subway system. This is the fastest and least expensive way to get around town.
ME! One of the greatest guides to ever call this rock home.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
50 USD - This is an estimate. Any snacks, meals, souvenirs, admissions or "suggested donations" to any site, etc., are the clients responsibility.
Subway fare for the client is the responsibility of the client (I will provide my own). At Grand Central we can purchase Metro Cards. One pay as you go card can be shared by up to 4 people. If you are going to be in NYC for a while you may want to consider the 7 Day Unlimited card. This card cannot be shared. I will advise on a client by client basis. There will be at least 3 rides at $2.75 per person, so a minimum of $8.25 is required.
In addition, any snacks, meals, souvenirs, admissions or "suggested donations" to any site, etc., medical expenses, legal fees or bail postings are the clients responsibility.
