Learn more about the history surrounding this powerful act of resistance

Prague has a deep history of resistance and asserting its independence. Here, in 1942, Reinhard Heydrich-- the "Butcher of Prague"--became the highest-ranked Nazi officer to be assassinated. The assassination and the following manhunt were immortalised in the must-see 2016 film Anthropoid. Watch the film, and then come on this tour to see exactly where the events took place, as well as the horrific Nazi retaliation. This is an ideal tour for fans of history, who want to learn more about the events from the film, so crucial to the history of World War II.

Itinerary

First, you should watch the 2016 film Anthropoid! We'll begin the tour by visiting the actual site of the attack on Heydrich, and the controversial memorial there, erected in 2009. Next, we will head out of Prague to the ruins of Lidice. This town was completely razed in retaliation for Heydrich's assassination. Today, the haunting ruins of the school, church, and other structures remain, as well as a moving memorial to Lidice's children. On the way back to Prague, we'll stop in Panenské Březany, where we'll see where Heydrich lived in a mansion confiscated from Jewish industrialist Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer in 1939. Our next stop is the Church of Sts. Cyril & Methodius. Visit the crypt where the Czechoslovak paratroopers hid during the manhunt following the assassination. Finally, I'll show you the nearby part of Prague that was bombed by Allied forces. Unknown to many, American B-17 bombers accidentally leveled this area in 1945 due to a navigation error, mistaking it for Dresden.

A Recent Review of this tour

Lyuba's tour exceeded our expectations. She was organized and efficient and her depth of knowledge on the subject at hand was impressive. As first time visitors to the area, we would have never been able to find the places less traveled she showed us on our own. Highly recommended for history buffs seeking a first hand experience of the Operation Anthropoid story.
