World famous Amsterdam architecture combined with the story of the canals
Amsterdam is not only famous for its canals and the beautiful 17th century merchants' houses along them, but also for that particular type of early 20th century architecture which we call Amsterdam School.
I will take you on an interesting tour to show you examples of this type of architecture, popular among architects and designers all over the world. We will be walking most of the time but also use public transport to cover the distances between the various parts of town that we will visit.
The standard tour lasts 5 hours, but I can always customize it to your own specific preferences. We could for instance include a walk along one of the most famous streetmarkets, Albert Cuypmarket.
Another option is to return to Central Station on foot and stroll around the old 17th century extensions of the city, the socalled Western Islands. These were the first buildingprojects by the projectdeveloppers of the 17th century and now the site of some of the most authentic warehouses, drawbridges and houseboats.
We will start in the lobby of your hotel or near Central Railway Station and walk across the old city center to a typical Amsterdam School neighbourhood in the early 20th century Western part of the city. In this neighbourhood we will visit Museum "Het Schip" (the Jewel in the crown of Amsterdam School Architecture). Instead of walking to the Museum we can also take the bus from Central Station to get there.
We will return by public transport to the city center, where the tour ends. Ofcourse I can also take you back to the lobby of your hotel or to any other place in the center where you would like to end the tour.
If you wish, my tour can be extended to the early 20th century Southern part of the city to discover more examples of Amsterdam School Architecture and an optional visit to Albert Cuyp market. These additional hours are not yet included in the price of the tour. If you are interested in this option, please let me know so I can give you a proper quote.

Wonderful day with Marianne, in spite of the nasty weather. Marianne was charming and flexible and able to meet all of our needs. Extremely knowledgeable. She gave us a great history lesson. Thank you, Marianne. We hope to see you again on our next trip to Amsterdam!
