From 19th Century Amish shops in the morning to 21st Century outlet shopping in the afternoon.
We will spend the morning with an Amish or Mennonite guide who will show us around Lancaster County, with its population of almost 40, 000 Amish. Our local guide gives us a level of entree and exposure to the community and its people that most tourists never get.
We will visit:
-a real working Amish farm (not one staged for tourists)
-various markets, farms stands and shops operated by the Amish throughout the country side
-on our travels, we will pass numerous one-room Amish school houses, horses and buggies on the road, farmers working in the field with their mule teams, etc.
For lunch, we well have a hearty meal prepared by the Amish, featuring area grown and raised "Pennsylvania Dutch" foods.
We are then off to an afternoon of shopping at a Tanger Outlet Center with its over 80 designer outlet stores .
At the start of the tour, our Amish / Menonnite guide will provide a list of 12-15 Amish businesses, sights and markets available for our visit. You will select the sights to visit of most interest to you. After the tour of Amish Country and a lunch of Amish fare with our guide, I will bring you to the area Tanger outlet center for shopping at over 80 designer and brand name stores. Then, back to New York. It should be noted that we pass through lovely countryside both on the way to and from Amish Country.
