Details

Kid Friendly: Yes. Kids are ok, but please note it's not recommended for kids under age of 8 (at least not to the top), as altitude may damage the ears or cause other symptoms (headache or others). As per other comment, the lower station (Sunegga) is ok.

Friendly: No.
Due to high altitude (3'103 m at the Rothorn station - 3'089m at Gornergrat and 3'883m at Glacier Paradise), I'd recommend people with heart diseases to stay at the lower station (Sunegga 2'288m) - where the view is also beautiful (see picture of the tour).

Maximum travelers: 10

A spectacular mountain destination to discover the most famous swiss peak.

Zermatt is very famous for it's most beautiful peak, the Matterhorn (Cervin in french). The village lays about 1'600m high, and is an oasis of silence, since no cars are allowed in. Even if many visitors come to see Zermatt, the village has kept a preserved atmosphere, with a large majority of wooden "chalets".
From the village, many opportunities to climb without efforts and admire the view : the Gornergrat Bahn, the Little Paradise gondolas or the funicular to Sunegga panorama point and/or gondola up to the Rothorn Bahn.

Itinerary

We take the train together in Lausanne, and with one change in Visp, we will reach Zermatt within 3 hours of a lovely journey - first along the lake then up the valley of the Visp leading to Zermatt, enjoying the panorama as it goes by.
We'll take a short tour of Zermatt to see the oldest chalets and admire the Matterhorn from the village, or take directly one of the various options to go up the mountain (which I will recommend on the way to Zermatt to help you take a decision - panorama or/and price based).
After admiring the spectacular view, we'll head back down towards the village.
The guided tour of Zermatt may happen before or after the ascent, time for souvenir shops or for lunch to be determined with you.
Once our day is over, we'll enjoy the comfortable journey back to Lausanne, saying goodbye to the high mountain and meeting the lake again.
