Grasp the soul of Nicosia out of the beaten paths with a unique local gastronomy experience
When all the tourist busses are away, when the museums closed their gates and most of the souvenir shops shut down their shutters, the real Nicosia comes to life. The last divided capital of Europe reveals its secrets to the attentive observer, who reads in the stones the stories of cohabitation in peace and in war over long centuries.
Follow me through narrow streets and deserted quarters to discover the architectural and ethnical diversity of this unique city including the "must-sees" like Büyük Han and Selimiye Mosque, but focusing on the less known parts: Faneromeni, Ömeriye, Samanhahçe, Arabahmet, etc. . .
No standard rigid itinerary! A flexible discovery which results from the interests of the guests.
We start in the South at the Faneromeni Church and then the Ömeriye Mosque and its Hammam. After crossing the green line at Lokmaci / Ledra Street, we move from the medieval Gothic Churches of St Sophia and St Nicholas to the Venetian column and city walls. From the Ottoman glory in Büyük Han and Arabahmet Mosque to the British rule in the justice courts and neoclassical houses. We witness the living wounds of the separation in the heart of the city and the ongoing rehabilitation program on both sides.
