Trip to the Danube Bend - Visegrád & Vác
Leave Budapest behind, explore the countryside & enjoy great food and wine. Tokaji was served at the French royal court where it was called Tokay. Louis XV shared his precious wine with Madame Pompadour referring to it as Wine of Kings, King of Wines. Even Franz Joseph, the Austro-Hungarian Emperor sent a bottle of Tokaji every year to Queen Victoria for her birthday. And now you have the chance to discover the magic of Tokaji, too. In the Royal Palace I'll tell you about medieval cooking, what they used to eat, what herbs and spices they used. You can see what a medieval kitchen looks like and I'll even show you a medieval dishwasher :) We have lunch at the famous Renaissance restaurant then we take the ferry back and catch the train to Vác, which is a less tourity but beautiful Baroque towns. We'll have a pleasant walk in the town center then visit to the Wine Museum located in a medieval cellar, where you can taste different types of the world-famous Tokaji wine and also purchase some, if you wish
I'll meet you at the Western Railway Station at 08. 45. The train leaves at 09. 07 and arrives at Nagymaros at 09. 47. If you arrive on a Saturday and if you wish we can visit the local market in Nagymaros where they sell home-made products (sausages, ham, cheese, jam etc. ) and hand-made crafts. We'll catch the ferry to Visegrád at 10. 00 (or 11. 00) and arrive within ten minutes. A minibus will be waiting for us to take us up to the Hilltop Citadel from where you can enjoy one of Hungary's most amazing views. We return downhill and visit the amazing Renaissance Royal Palace, then enjoy a royal feast at the Renaissance Restaurant at around 13. 00.
Take the ferry and the train to Vác (the journey takes about half an hour). I'll show you around here then we'll visit the Wine Museum (at around 16. 00) Here you have the chance to taste the famous Tokaji line and even buy some wine.
I'll walk you back to the train station and say good-bye to you there. You'll arrive back to the city at around 18. 00.

Rita was a perfect choice for our daytrip to the "countryside" of Budapest. Her personality pared with a very good knowledge about the history was the key for a nice experience. And of course her english is way better than mine. I would definitely recommend her to other friends who are planing to visit Budapest.
