From my early days, I have enjoyed walking and talking and I really enjoy tour guiding where I can combine both! I read widely and have a broad range of interests including history, gardening, politics and travel and love meeting new people. While I would describe myself as a "country girl", I worked in the Property Industry in Dublin for many years, and then in the political world, so am also very familiar with our Capital and work there regularly as a Dublin Guide.
I am fully licensed to drive a luxury Mercedes limousine, taking up to four people so can bring visitors touring throughout Dublin city and the surrounding areas. For city tours, some walking is advised as many of the interesting attractions are close together, and you can see a lot more on foot - we go at a pace that suits you!
NB: Make sure you only travel in a vehicle that is licensed to carry passengers - you may not be insured if the vehicle does not have a Small Public Service Vehicle licence.
I lead a regular walking group which has climbed nearly every mountain in Wicklow and we also regularly visit historic houses or sites as part of our walks - combining both my interests in one outing! I think this is a great way to spend a day - some walking and some sightseeing in the company of someone who can interpret what you are seeing and add some local "colour" to the trip. From my years of organising outings for my local history society, I have direct experience of a number of really interesting places to visit, depending on your interests, some of these not regularly open to the public.
As a Guide for Dublin & Environs, and as a ToursByLocals Guide, I have a range of Dublin based tours which have proved very popular, and a great alternative to group tours. My tours in the city are usually walking, or a combination of walking and car or taxi if applicable, and range from a general tour of the highlights of this lovely Capital to more specific tours, such as my Tour of Jewish Dublin. I like to communicate with clients beforehand to learn what they want from their time in Ireland and accommodate them if possible. Recent tours have included a "U2 tour", "A tour of Howth and a visit to Ireland's Eye island" and the Crypts and graveyards of Dublin. Another tour that has proved popular is my "Farmer's Tour" and I have access to a variety of farms close to Dublin, one of them being my brother's sheep & cattle farm and my family love meeting visitors and showing them around a farmstead, over 300 years old.
I am also a great believer in being spontaneous. If, on the day, something is mentioned as being of interest, we will try and incorporate it - that is why private tours are the way to make the most of your time in Ireland.
A Recent Review of this guide
Dairine knew the area and sites we saw extremely well and her true affection for them as a local added much to our tour. She was flexible and accommodating through the day and we highly recommend a tour with her.
I am a Failte Ireland Badged Guide for the Dublin & Environs Area, meaning I can guide groups around Dublin city and the surrounding counties. I have guided many international groups on tours around the city centre and through my native county. I also hold a SPSV licence and have a fully licensed limousine, taking up to four people. (Make sure any vehicle you travel in is licensed to carry passengers - you may not be insured otherwise).
I am a qualified Nordic Walking Instructor and for the past nine years, I have been leading walking groups throughout County Wicklow, visiting historic sites and houses as part of a walking experience. As a keen local historian, and founder member of one of Ireland's largest History Societies, I have an interesting CV - estate agency, politics, and outdoor pursuits, so a tour with me will cover a broad spectrum of topics!! I love guiding and have met some fabulous people since I started and take great pride in ensuring that I add something extra to your visit - in a good way
