Experience the eerie glow of Pele's furnace
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has so much to offer, I begin my narration en route, sharing everything from traditional Hawaiian folklore to the unusual geological history that makes our Hawaiian volcanoes unique.
Once there, we will visit the renowned Jagger Museum with its stunning caldera overlook, get "drizzled" by natural steam vents, and hike through a mature Ohia/ Koa forest to the volcano's edge. We will peer over the impressive Kilauea Iki crater, and be serenaded by birds as we walk through the Nahuku (Thurston) Lava tube.
There is a wide choice of trails for hiking- from easy pavement to mild, uneven terrain- all with breathtaking vistas, many providing choice spots for our delicious picnic lunch.
The magic of the volcano intensifies as the sun sets. From deep within the crater, an eerie glow from the molten lava brightens the smoldering plume, illuminating the vapor from within as it reaches into the sky, igniting neighboring clouds in a glowing spectacle of raw Mother Nature. It is surreal.

Jagger Museum & Kilauea overlook. We will stay here as long as you would like, but then head to a "road less traveled" for a short walk along the crater rim.
Steam vents- volcanic heated steam rising from cracks in the earth
Kilauea Iki crater overlook- site of the amazing 1959 fountain of lava eruption
Nahaku (Thurston) Lava Tube- (Note: There are stairs with safety rails)
Devastation Trail- a 5 minute hike to the Pu'u Pua'i cinder cone created by the Kilauea Iki eruption
(Various options for additional hikes- from flat, easy pavement to mildly uneven terrain)
There are various overlooks around the caldera from which to watch the sun set and Glow intensify. One option could be to end our tour at the "Volcano House, " where you can enjoy "pupus" (appetizers) and specialty drinks while being mesmerized by the spectacle. (Refreshments not included in tour fee. )
