Train trip to Visegrád, Danube Bend
Looking for a trip to see our beautiful countryside as well? This is best choice for a short trip to get out of the city and enjoy the unique view of the Danube Bend. We'll take the train from the Western Railway Station to Nagymaros, then hop on the ferry that crosses the River Danube to Visegrád. Visit the beautiful renaissance Royal Palace followed by a mini bus trip up to the Castle of Visegrád for the most beautiful scenery in the Danube Bend. Enjoy lunch at the local Renaissance restaurant and get to know about our most famous foods and wines.
If you arrive on a Saturday you'll have the opportunity to visit the local market in Nagymaros where you can buy real Hungarian home-made products like jams, sausages etc. and you can also pick up some unique hand-made products to take home as a souvenir.
Enjoy the breathtaking view and let me guide you back in time to Visegrád's golden age.
PLEASE NOTE: this tour is NOT available on Mondays.
Leaving Budapest we arrive at Nagymaros, where (if you arrive on Saturday) you can enjoy the hustle & bustle of the local marketplace. We hop on the ferry that crosses the River Danube to Visegrád and take a mini bus up to the Castle on the top of the hill. (At certain times during the winter the Castle may be closed. Please ask for details) Take the bus back to town, enjoy lunch then visit the Royal Palace which used to be the most impressive Renaissance palace in Europe and even now it feels magical to walk through the reconstructed halls and yards experiencing the sights and sounds of medieval life. Take the ferry back to Nagymaros, where the trip finishes. The train returns to Budapest.

Rita was warm, engaging, considerate and incredibly knowledgeable. She made the tour feel fun and educational, doubt you can find a better guide! This tour was excellent in that it took us out of the city and into the countryside to see more of Hungary than just Budapest. It involved taking a train, ferry and micro bus which all were enjoyable and added to the "local" experience. Rita's detailed knowledge of the Castle and its place in Hungarian history make the tour, a must see.
